Improving the diversity of London's teacher workforce
The Mayor's school leadership programmes
We are justifiably proud of London’s schools, but we know that Black and other ethnic minorities are under-represented in leadership positions. The Mayor’s Getting Ahead London and Stepping into Leadership programmes have supported more middle and senior leaders to have the skills and confidence to become headteachers in London and lead our great schools. A central aim of these programmes is to diversify school leadership by helping more ethnic minority teachers move into leadership positions, representing better the school populations they serve.
- Since launching in 2016, Getting Ahead London has supported over 300 leaders, across every London borough. Engaging ethnic minority leaders has been a particular focus of the programme
- Stepping into Leadership aims to equip minority ethnic teachers with the leadership skills, personal confidence and professional networks to make a successful application for promotion. Read the evaluation report of the programme below
